The Glitter Gym One Year Later

by Michael Allen Smith

My gym is 2 stories. The bottom floor is full of cardio equipment and televisions. Upstairs has the weights. The people downstairs tend to workout longer and with what appears to be greater intensity. The people upstairs take numerous breaks as they move from one exercise to another.

Which group is the most fit? Which group is leaner?

The answer to both questions are the people upstairs. And it's not even close. The people lifting weights are in way better shape than treadmill junkies downstairs. I started going to my Glitter Gym one year ago. The same lumpy people that were wasting their effort on extensive cardio sessions are still overweight. Let me quote Nelson Montana:

MORE MUSCLE = LESS FAT Using aerobics as a method of burning fat is only fanning the fire. Muscle requires energy to sustain. Fat does not. Therefore, the best way to keep bodyfat in check is by having more muscle. And how do we do that? Lifting weights of course! Are you getting all of this?

This advice is especially true for women. Women are their own worst enemy in the gym. So fearful of bulking up they never pick up a piece of weight equipment unless it's painted pink. There were 2 women lifting (real) weights in the gym this morning. They were the 2 hottest and most feminine women in the building. That was no accident.
